How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
Chief and Master Instructor Vince Vergara has been studying the martial arts for over 30 years and currently holds a 6th degree black belt in Jung Sim Do, 3rd Dan in WHF Hapkido and advanced rank in Modern Arnis. Honors and credentials include: American Council of Martial Arts Certified Martial Arts Instructor, ACTION Personal Trainer Certified Personal Trainer, member of the National Association of Professional Martial Artists and Martial Arts Teachers Association, and "2003 Instructor of the Year" by the Worldwide Martial Arts Hall of Fame. Vergara has been a multiple gold medalist at the Keystone State Games and has won championships at open sport karate tournaments including the Central PA Karate Championships, Battle of Harrisburg and Breath of Nature. Vergara has also been featured in media outlets including the Harrisburg Patriot Newspaper and local news channels abc27, cbs21 and Fox43 for his martial arts and self- defense expertise.

Many martial arts schools fall under one of two categories: fight clubs or day care. The West Shore Academy of Martial Arts is different. We offer offer a third choice: Real Martial Arts, taught well. At WSAMA, we strike a balance between tradition and a modern, scientific approach to self-defense.
The Academy was voted "Simply the Best" in Martial Arts by Harrisburg Magazine, and recognized as having the "Best Martial Arts Program" by Central Penn Parent Magazine.
